It's Coming!

Every year around this time, I start to get excited. The cool nights, the fresh smell in the air, the sight of leaves turning brilliant shades of gold. They all mean one thing: Halloween is coming!

It should come as no surprise that a drama queen like me who loves mystery, being scared, junk food and playing dress-up would count down the days to Oct. 31. There are haunted houses to visit, candy to buy, costumes to assemble, parties to plan, scary movies to watch and blankets to cuddle under. Half the reason I think I married R is that his birthday falls on Halloween (my mother's was the following day).

This year I am even more excited because I now have an excuse to Trick or Treat again--something I abandoned at the age of 16 after getting too many, "how old are you?" looks from parents as they dispensed their candy. So, now, 14 years later, I get to do it all over again. Since the little one is too little for candy, I will also help her eat it all. Is it bad that I am probably going to drag her from house to house for hours so we can fill a pillowcase? Mama needs a Kit Kat, dammit!

For years I have planned my child's first costume. For beggar's night, Samara will go as a chili pepper, but I have also decided to throw a little soiree for some of my friend's children and we also have a halloween party at my local maternity center. All in all, it is bound to be my best holiday to date.
