Layette Help?

I have finally come around to the notion that even if the baby does not arrive "early" we will be having a baby in three weeks. Oh. My. G-d. With that in mind, I am starting to organize her room and clothes--quite the challenge. So, I am soliciting help from any and everyone. If you lurk on my site, but do not comment, please make your presence known! I implore you. I need all the help I can get. I am so confused by what a onesie is and what a sleeper is and how many she needs. So here is what I have:

9 sleep and plays (one-piece footie pajama things) in the newborn-3 mo. size
12 short sleeved onesies
3 sleep sacks with the feet sealed
4 sleep sacks without the feet sealed (little elastic band thing at feet)
3 long sleeved onesies
3-4 pants
2 pairs socks
2 pairs mittens
4 waffle knit receiving blankets
4 flannel receiving blankets
10 washcloths
2 hooded towels
one little robe
one pair terry cloth booties
one knitted hat
one pair booties
one fleece hat
one fleece jacket
one winter jacket
one sweater onesie (take home outfit)
one bunting in newborn size
one Bundle Me bunting
3 crib sheets
2 basinett sheets

HELP? Anyone think I need more? Less? Missing something? Please share...

Baby stuff I have:

Swing
Basinett
Stroller (Phil and Ted's E3)with storm cover
Baby Bjorn carrier (do I also need a sling???)
Car seat (Britax Marathon convertible--is it ok to skip the infant seat?? Has anyone done this? We really did not want to overbuy, but if this is a terrible plan, let me know)
Pack and Play (Graco)
Exersaucer (Even Flo)
Rattles and toys
Bottles
Breast Pump (Medela)
Maybe 30 diapers in size one
Some basic toys
Books
Tummy Time Boppy play thing
Regular Boppy

Thoughts?? Anything I am missing here?

Nursery:

Changing table
Crib
Closet
Bookshelf
Glider
Diaper Champ

Missing anything???

Thank you!

Wow! That's on exhaustive list. It's great that you're so prepared.

Here's a couple words of advice from my experience. I would get some newborn and some 0-3 month long sleeved undershirts (I think they all come with the hand covers). If your little girl is anything like mine, she will whack at her face quite a bit. And those fingernails are sharp! I kept Isabella's hands covered for two months (which is probably longer than I should have, but with my relatives being as overprotective as they are, I didn't really have a choice). But, it did keep her from scratching her face, plus it kept her hands warms, and it was an extra layer under her sleepers.

You also might want to pick up some light-weight hats. While I was in the hospital, the nurses kept a hat on Isabella at all times (and she was born in August!). I guess babies cannot regulate their body temperature that well in the beginning, so she slept in a hat at night once we brought her home for a few weeks.

Also, they kept her swaddled most of the time in the hospital too, and we did too once she was home. Do you have a Swaddle Me? They're these one-piece things with velcro that keep the babies feeling nice and secure while they sleep. We're still swaddling Isabella.

And do you have a sleep positioner for when she sleeps in the crib or bassinett? This will keep her sleeping on her back and prevent her from rolling over onto her side or stomach. It's a SIDS prevention thing.

This is all that comes to mind right now, but I will definitely come back and let you know if I can think of anything else. I think you're doing great with what you have, though!

Thank you so much, Kristi! We do have a sleep positioner, but I was thinking of returning it. Now I won't. We will get some undershirts and I will also buy some hats. Which kind of undershirt works well? Pull over? Kimono? I really appreciate your help.

The undershirts I had were button-up ones. Babies R Us (or probably any department store) sells them in packages of three.

Also, do you have a wipe warmer? Obviously, this isn't a necessity, but they are nice to have so baby isn't "shocked" by the cold wipes during the 14 million diaper changes during the day. One of my friends gave me hers, but I don't think they're too expensive.

So, I'm no expert in parenting, but I'm thinking maybe a couple more pairs of socks might be a good addition.

Then again, socks tend to fall off those little feet (at least they always did with my niece and nephew.

There's a place that sells socks that have a little loop that snaps onto some outfits...they worked out great for my brother's family. Sure beats picking them up off the ground every other minute!

Here's the website: http://snapdragonbaby.com/

Sounds like you have most everything that you will need. Organic clothes and accessories are another option. A great website for this is www.susiejane.com. They offer certified organic baby clothes, organic skin care products, organic alpaca wool knits, educational toys, games and music. And oh, they have a line of modern eco-friendly baby furniture.

Good luck with everything and enjoy motherhood!

RELAX...

if you haven't already, buy BABY BARGAINS. it's the consumer reports for new and expectant parents...

from what i've read diaper warmers are dangerous (can possibly burn your little ones bum) and a waste of money... ours did just fine without one.

if you don't believe us, you can ask him ;)
