My Girl

Yesterday my baby girl revealed a previously untapped penchant for the girly.

My sister and I took Sam to the park yesterday afternoon. We brought a football along as that is what she had been demanding earlier. But once we arrived, all thoughts of footballs were put aside, as what did she see? A doll stroller.

And OMG. Life as we know it may never be the same.

The doll stroller was not hers. But playground etiquette be damned, my child was obsessed. She stole it from the little girl who owned it and wheeled it around and around and around. She tried to abscond with it, but Mariel and I were able to corral her.

When I made her return it to the little girl, a fit ensued. Then the little girl started screaming, too. It was awful. I had to get one for my child. Apparently, unbeknownst to me, there is this whole world of doll strollers for little girls. The girl's mother explained to me that in her two girl home, they have three doll strollers. One for the older daughter, one for the younger and one for any little girl who might want to play. It is just that hot.

I knew I had to have one. And so Mariel and I walked from the park to the best independent toy store in our area, but we could not find the right one. I went home and found it online.

With her excitement in relation to doll strollers, we decided it was time to break out the big guns. Last year, a two wonderfully generous relatives took us to American Girl Place in LA. They asked us to pick whatever we thought was most appropriate for little Sam. We picked a sweet baby doll and many accessories, thinking it would be the most age appropriate (besides the fact that she already has an older American Girl doll).

Since then we have saved the doll and her many, many accessories for the perfect moment. After finding out we were expecting another, the doll took on even greater importance as I plan to teach her a lot about babies through this doll. When I nurse her brother, she can feed her "baby" a bottle. While I carry my baby in a sling, she can also carry hers. Her brother's stroller can be pushed by me, but her doll's stroller is all hers.

So, last night R and I presented her with her baby and its bouncy seat. Its stroller arrives later this week. The result? A baby who loves her very own "baby" with plenty of kisses, hugs and bouncing. Now, let's just hope she does not plan to pull on her brother's eyelashes the way she does on the doll's. Otherwise, we are in for some fun.

So sweet Sasha! Yay for dolls! I still have my first in the attic, complete with her cradle, stroller and high chair (no joke!) She (and all her accessories) were a gift from my favorite great Auntie Eva.

Let's just hope Sam doesn't develop a stroller fetish to match yours! ;-)

Cute photos!

Looks like someone is going to make a great big sister. A friend just bought me a tandem doll stroller for Isabella so she can have her own "twins." One of these days, I'm going to have to get her used to playing with dolls.
