Perhaps I was Right to be Concerned

Turns out 13 months was a bit of an ominous day. First, Sam's nose started to run. I took her temp and it was normal so I took her to the gym daycare anyway. Besides, our pediatrician told us that if we kept her home anytime she--or someone we know--had a cold, we would not leave our house all winter. So we went.

When I went to pick her up, one of the teachers was annoyed because another mother had complained that Sam is getting a cold. "Now they will all be sick," she apparently said. Let it be known that this mother had a 3-month-old she was dropping off in the gym daycare. And she left her anyway. Sorry to say, but every illness Sam has had, she has picked up there. Daycare is a germy place. I was upset the first time, but now I figure it is par for the course. Kids get colds. They pass them on. Deal with it. Luckily, the teacher was on my side and basically repeated what my pediatrician said. "As long as they don't have a fever..."

And then I took her home, took her temp and guess what? She had spiked a fever. Oops. I guess I am that mom. Her temp was 102 degrees, which is the highest it has ever gone. Poor baby. I gave her some tylenol and she took a long nap. But she is out of daycare now until Thursday. Poor me.

Besides her illness, R had a setback on his dissertation, I lost all my motivation and basically the day sucked. I am hoping the rest of 13 months goes a little better than the first day.

Oh S - I'm sorry! Sounds like you had a lousy day yesterday. And man I don't know how you didn't come back with something to say to that nasty mother. People are so insensitive! I'm here if you need me.

I will take Isabella to her playgroup and activities as long as she's not visibly draining bodily fluids. Where I used to keep her inside at the slightest sign of a sniffle, now I'm in your camp. We'd never leave the house all winter long if we waited for everyone to be cold-free.
Hope she feels better soon!
