I Guess I am the Grinch?

Check out my piece that ran in Babble this week.

Well, I certainly wouldn't perpetuate the myth if my kids had such an adverse reaction to Santa as you did. My kids (two of them, at least) believe in Santa. We don't make a big deal out of him though. My kids don't sit on his lap, and only one gift is left by Santa with the rest coming from "Mommy and Daddy." My oldest discovered the truth two years ago and I explained that even though Santa isn't a real person, he represents the spirit of giving. Obviously you have to do what you feel is right, and I don't think anyone would fault you for that.

Ohhh... I love a good controversial issue! While I am "doing the Santa thing" with Isabella, I do see your side of this, especially in light of what you experienced as a kid. And while you can frame it as lying to your kids, I think most of the "Santa myth" is a fun and innocent part of childhood, when it's done correctly.

Plus, anything that can make my child behave ("Santa's watching!") is good in my book. ;)
